This year, we’re adding even more holiday cheer with a new youth boffer tourney and an added cause, Holiday Socks of Love! Here’s an information roundup:
Youth Boffer Tourney, Tuesday, November 19, 6:30 p.m., at Brackett Park (fight practice)
Rapier Tourney, Wednesday, November 20, 7:00 p.m., at Geek Partnership Society (Wednesday meeting)
Armored Tourney, Wednesday, November 20, 7:00 p.m., at Geek Partnership Society (Wednesday meeting)
Archery Tourney, Sunday, December 1, 9:00 a.m., at Bwana Archery (note early time!)
Entrants and spectators are encouraged (but not required) to donate one or more toys at the tourney. The rules vary, but extra toy donations can be exchanged for rule changes, competitor choices, player challenges, and other complications for a fun and often hilarious tourney.
We are once again emphasizing Toys for Tots donations for the youngest and oldest age brackets (babies and teens), as they are the most typically under-donated groups. Toddler books and toys are very welcome. For teens, Toys for Tots suggests sporting equipment, bags, and balls; books, backpacks, cosmetics, purses, watch/wallet gift sets, bath gift sets, board games, radio control cars/trucks, hand-held electronics, skateboards/helmets, curling irons, hair straighteners, and hair dryers. Music CDs of popular teen music are also a fun idea. CDs from the “Now that’s what I call Music” series are a safe bet. Realistic-looking weapons and gifts with food will not be accepted by Toys for Tots.
In addition to supporting Toys for Tots as usual, this year we will be supporting a local organization, Holiday Socks of Love, which provides holiday stockings filled with small gifts for Minnesota kids in foster care. We will select from the donated small toys to fill stockings, so please consider donating one or two small gifts (such as card games, markers or crayons, Play-Doh, gift cards, socks, ear buds, Mad Libs, kids’ books) that will fit in a stocking. A representative from Socks of Love is hoping to attend the armored/rapier and archery tourneys.
Garb at the tourneys is encouraged but not required. Potluck contributions are welcome but not required and need not be based on historic foods; please be aware that space at boffer is limited.
